VERYBIGLONGNIGHT, Hendre, Sat 4th March 2006
The Verybiglongnight was organized as part of the Llanberis Film Festival. All 3 rooms were open, including a fabulous Moroccan chill out area in the third room, full of carpets, cushions and lamps, designed by the talented Fiona. The Long Barn was brightly decorated with UV hangings by Buttons (no, not the one from Cinderella), and DJs Gary (Cid Floss), Stevie G, Stevie Bear, Oggy and "guest" Joni kept us dancing to a mixture of psy-trance, techno and reggae. Banda Bacana played a fab set in the front room that had lots of people dancing, and then The Mighty FUOD from Mid Wales played a wicked set with a ska & drum and bass beat that had all the crustie party goers of old leaping wildly on the dance floor. The Sometimes editor head banged so wildly she had a stiff neck for 3 days afterwards. At the end of the night a bus turned up to take people home to Llanberis, and lots of very drunken locals and climbers helped each other paralytically onto the bus. A great night.
RED STRIPE, KID C & DJS, Hendre, 28th Aug 2005
A brilliant second gig from Red Stripe! The band are all excellent, especially the drummer (not that I'm biased!). All the singers were on fine form, and Belinda is definitely the Janis Joplin of reggae (thanks to Corrie for making that comparison). The DJs were all excellent too, and Luke played some wicked dub. Stevie Bear rocked the dance floor in the long barn at the end of the night, and I think we could have all carried on dancing till dawn. Lots of people were out to play, and there was a really nice atmosphere. More!
BACK 2 BACK 2 GET ERIC BACK, Hendre, 27th Aug 2005
A fundraising night was held at Hendre on Bank Holiday weekend, with various DJs playing 3 tunes each, resulting in a great variety of music, from reggae to dance. My personal favourite was a 12 year old DJ playing a great rock set: you don't often hear Ace of Spades at Hendre! A good idea that I hope we see repeated, and hopefully more women will have a go next time too!
LOVE 2 GROOVE SUMMER PARTY, Hendre, 29th July 2005
The theme for the night was beach, and the North Wales weather was obligingly misty and wet. There wasn’t a sign of the suggested bikinis at the beginning of the night, but as everyone danced more and drank more, a few people stripped down to their bikini tops; with only one woman daring to dance in full bikini!
It wasn’t packed, but there were enough nice people to make it a good atmosphere; and it was a nice change to have 2 rooms open at Hendre again. Sonny Warton, the main DJ, who’s played Manumission (famous Ibizan club) and Renaissance played a really good set, with lots of deep throbbing beats that had everyone up and dancing, but mixed in with all sorts of interesting bits of music and words, rather then just being the usual mesh of repetitive beats.
A good night! Thanks to the organizers.
